WATCH: Women's US Open champion repeatedly called the wrong name at trophy presentation

Brittany Lang won her first major title on Sunday night at the US Open.

The 30-year-old has previously played in four Solheim Cup teams for America and is far from an unknown quantity on the LGPA Tour, despite her maiden major triumph. The win was her fourth top-ten finish at the US Open. In 2005, she finished in second place, as an amateur.

Lang and Anna Nordqvist finished on -6 after 72 holes, with the American winning the three-hole playoff by three strokes. Despite the win, Brittany was introduced at the trophy presentation as Bethany.

USGA President Diana Murphy made the mistake on numerous occasions when introducing the winner. Murphy has since come out and apologised for the mistake.

"I would like to apologize to the 2016 U.S. Women’s Open champion, Brittany Lang. During the prize presentation, I mistakenly called her by the wrong name repeatedly", Murphy said in a statement.

"I have expressed my regret to Brittany personally and explained that in the heat of the moment, I became nervous and made these mistakes. I appreciate her understanding, and I am sorry that what I said may have taken away from a historic moment for a very deserving champion."

Do you think the same thing would happen to the men's champion?
