Wenger 'won't interfere' over Sterling speculation

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger won't comment directly on speculation linking Liverpool's Raheem Sterling with a move to the club.

The England international says he's "flattered" by the reports, but added that he's no "money-grabbing 20-year-old" regarding ongoing, and stalling, contract talks with the Merseysiders.

Arsenal host Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday - and Wenger says Sterling will be a danger.

"Raheem Sterling is a top player and everybody knows that in the country now," said Wenger. "He's a very important player for Liverpool, of course."

When pressed on his interest in the attacker, he added: "I don't want to interfere in that, especially 48 hours before a game."

Meanwhile, the Frenchman says he doesn't need to punish Mesut Ozil for being seen out in a nightclub in Berlin.

It happened on the same night the German was ruled out of a Premier League game at Newcastle nearly two weeks ago.

Wenger says Ozil was only out for half-an-hour for a friend's birthday - so there's no reason for further action.

"I'm not going soft on discipline but I fine people when they work for us and don't respect the discipline," said Wenger.

"On that front you cannot stop anybody from wishing happy birthday to his own friend when he is in his own country."
