Who's the real winner from the Premier League's TV rights bonanza?

Earlier today, the Premier League announced a TV rights package of historic proportions.

Broadcasting rivals Sky and BT Sport have combined to pay a total of £5.136 billion for the UK broadcast rights from 2016 to 2019, which equates to about £10M per match.

Tonight on Off The Ball, we were joined on the line by David Cushnan, editor-in-chief of sports buisness magazine Sports Pro to talk about what it all means for all the parties involved.

"Sky really needed to retain the bulk of the rights and it has spent big to do so and taken the maximum number that any single broadcaster is allowed," siad Cushnan, who explained that Sky have also been public about trying to prevent the cost of their future packages from rising for consumers.

"They are going to work hard to minimise the impact on customers. They think they can make the payments that they need to make through making efficiencies elsewhere in the business. We'll have to wait and see on that."

Cushnan explained how Sky and BT are using the Premier League rights in their battle across all digital platforms, while he also spoke about the potential reduction of ticket prices which are very high in England.
