Earlier this month, it emerged that Shamrock Rovers had written to RTE asking that their matches no longer be shown on live TV - a stance supported by Dundalk FC.
Understandably, the clubs' concerns are related to finances and lost revenue and The Irish Independent football writer and Off The Ball contributor Dan McDonnell explained the situation to us on tonight's show.
"They wrote to RTE a while back, having studied not just this season and recent seasons, and particularly there was a Monday night game against Cork, where they feel the problem with TV matches is that the obvious temptation is for people to stay at home which is one thing, the change of kick off times as well - they played Cork at 7.05pm on a Monday night and every time they are doing games now, the games start a bit earlier 7.25pm or 7.05pm - and Rovers play their matches in Tallaght at 8pm generally because there's issues with getting out to the town and they just have noticed from their calculations, they reckon that €10,000 per game is the gate money that they lose."
But Dan also touched on other main point worrying clubs: "it's more to make the point that they aren't receiving any money at all when their games are shown on television. That is really the issue."
