Williams and Pat Symonds to part ways

The Williams Formula 1 team will part company with chief technical officer Pat Symonds at the end of this month.

The Briton has worked in the sport for a quarter of a century, and overseen four world title wins.

He was banned from the sport for five years after being found guilty of his part in ordering Nelson Piquet to crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.

Confirming Symonds departure, Deputy Team Principal Claire Williams told the team website that: "Pat has been a tremendous asset to this team over the past three years. Pat’s appointment was the start of a major restructuring exercise, and he has been pivotal in reshaping Williams into what is a much stronger racing team today. I would like to thank him for all of his hard work and commitment during that time. We now look to the future and will be announcing details regarding the team’s technical leadership in due course."

Williams will be going into the 2017 season with a driver line up of Valtteri Bottas and rookie Lance Stroll.

However, there has been speculation regarding Bottas' future as he has been linked with a potential move to Mercedes to partner Lewis Hamilton, following the sudden retirement of 2016 drivers champion Nico Rosberg after the season ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
