'A lot of our panel this year have been touched by sadness' - Cork's Anna Geary

They have had to wait since 2009, but yesterday Cork finally got their hands on the All Ireland Camgoie title.

The 2-12 to 1-9 victory over Kilkenny is the county's 25th title and puts them a single championship behind all-time camogie championship winners Dublin.

But the team have had to overcome adversity to complete that achievement. Recently Jennifer O'Leary's sister passed away.

Captain Anna Geary joined us on the line and was full of praise for her team-mate who notched a key goal shortly after half-time.

"The game for us was about putting everything aside for 60 minutes and focusing on the positives. A lot of our panel this year have been touched, in some or another, by sadness so it typified Jen's character and personality, the way she came out in the second half and produced that performance because she's all about the team, regardless of what's going on in her own life," said Geary.

Cork really came alive in the second half after an indifferent opening and Geary believes returning to their strengths helped them to turn their fortunes around.

"We hadn't been playing to our strengths in the first half and in big finals that can sometimes happen because you can get nervous and revert back to a style that comes naturally but wouldn't necessarily be the one that's best for the team. So in the second half we came out with a renewed sense of life. We played our running game which had worked so well in the previous few games," said Geary.
