Barry Geraghty on Moscow Flyer: "He was something else"

Irish racing legend Barry Geraghty spoke of his affection for Moscow Flyer.

The Meath man joined Johnny Ward on OTB's Friday Night Racing to talk about his career, return from injury, favourite rides and lots more.

The 2003 Grand National winner says the horse always showed up even if he wasn't in form on the saddle.

He added that the horse was one of the very best that he has ever saddled.

"Now he wasn't the easiest in the world but he always came up trumps. If I wasn't on the floor, he always won. He was top class.

Geraghty said it was his fault more often than not if he was unseated by Moscow Flyer.

"I was on the floor a few times, and hands up, it wasn't always the horse's fault,' said Geraghty.

The 38-time Cheltenham winner admitted the horse's concentration levels were erratic but says he always relished the challenge.

"He wasn't straight forward; he wasn't the easiest,' added the Champion jockey.

The Pelletstown man relayed the 2004 Champion Chase when Moscow Flyer unseated him.

He reaffirmed his affection for the horse but says there were times where she was hard to control on the track.

"If I gave him a squeeze, he'd hit it. If I sat, he'd hit it. We wound up in the middle of the ditch and I was on the floor."
