Antoine Griezmann's immediate future has been finally resolved.
The French striker has signed a new contract with Atletico Madrid that sees him contracted to the Spanish giants until 2022.
He is expected to become the club's highest earner, but his buy-out clause is set tot remain unmoved. That makes the chance of him leaving next summer more likely.
Atletico are currently serving a transfer ban in the current window. A Griezmann transfer would mean Diego Simeone's side would not be able to replace the striker.
Last week, Griezmann told French TV that he was to stay with the club, but news of a improved transfer was revealed on Monday night.
"We have decided to stay. [The constant speculation and questions about his future] was pretty irritating."
"It is a difficult moment for the club and for my teammates. It would have been a really harsh blow [for the club] to leave. There is another beautiful season to be had."
Last week, it was confirmed that Manchester United had not retained the services of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as he continues to recover from injury.
With news of Griezmann's new deal with Atletico, it looks like the Premier League side will gave to switch their focus in the coming weeks.
