Doug Howlett: "An All-Blacks v Ireland quarter-final? I'd be nervous for the All-Blacks"

With 62 All-Blacks caps to his name, it's the 114 he won with Munster that have held sway over Doug Howlett in terms of his where he resides now.

The 36-year-old former New Zealand still lives in Ireland and works with Munster and tonight he joined us on Off The Ball to talk about staying in Ireland, his provincial and international career and the upcoming Rugby World Cup.

Howlett confirmed that there has been a growing interest in Joe Schmidt's achievements with Ireland in their native New Zealand, and added that, "A quarter-final of All-Blacks v Ireland? I'd be nervous for the All-Blacks."

But he also chatted about what New Zealand's pre-match Haka means to him.

"The last time I performed the haka was in a red jersey of Munster against the All-Blacks in 2008. A wonderful memory. However, the haka to me is a way in which I can honour those who were there before me, honour the traditions of All-Black rugby - and they go back over 100 years including Dave Gallagher who was an All-Blacks captain out of Letterkenny - so all these things come into it. It's more personal rather than motivational," he said.
