GALLERY: Ireland's Olympic heroes return home

Ireland's Olympic athletes have returned home to cheering crowds at Dublin Airport.

After silver medallist Annalise Murphy arrived back yesterday, more Olympians touched down this evening.

Michael Conlan, Thomas Barr and Paddy Barnes were among the competitors welcomed home by proud supporters.

Speaking to reporters after landing in Dublin, Conlon said he hoped no youth athlete or boxer would ever have to go through what he had to.

The Belfast native, who controversially lost to Russian boxer Vladimir Nikitin, made headlines in Rio after branding IABA judges "cheats" – a claim dismissed by the organisation.

"I dedicated 18 years of my life to boxing and for my dream to be ripped away from me was horrible," Conlon said.

"If I can help boxing in the future I’ll be very, very happy."

Barr's mother, meanwhile, said the family was still trying to come back down to earth after her son clinched fourth place in the 400m hurdles final.
