'It doesn't hurt you as much'

Ken Doherty saw his UK Snooker Championship challenge come to an end this week in a 6-1 defeat at the hands of World No 8 Ricky Walden in Round 3.

Tonight, the 1997 World Champion joined us on the line to share his disappointment and said: "I just wish I had performed like I did in the first couple of matches. I was disappointed with the way I played and maybe I could have got more a little bit more of a rub of the green."

He also explained what snooker players think about between frames as they watch their opponents take to the table, with a focus on the subtleties of body language of particular interest.

Doherty also assessed his 2014 in the context of his career.

"Everything is a bonus now and I try to go out with that philosophy. I still have the same hunger like I did 20 years ago but it's a different sort of reflection when you lose. It doesn't hurt you as much because I feel like I've had a good career," said Doherty, who says he has nothing to lose or prove anymore.

Doherty also gave his opinion on Kilkenny's David Morris who beat World No 1 Mark Selby and thinks "winning on TV is a big step for him against a world champion."
