CRICKET

Ireland's World Cup match with the United Arab Emirates in Brisbane continues.

Phil Simmons' men won the toss and elected to field first.

So far the UAE are 278-6 after 50 overs.

SOCCER

In the Champions league, Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says a poor first half cost them in last night's round-of-16, first-leg defeat at home by Barcelona.

Luis Suarez scored twice for the Catalans in the opening half but Sergio Aguero pulled one back for the hosts who were a vastly improved side after the break.

Joe Hart saved an stoppage-time penalty from Lionel Messi to keep City in the tie.

In the night's other game, Juventus overcame Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in Turin.

Later tonight, Arsenal will play host to Monaco in the first-leg of their last-16 tie, while Bayer Leverkusen entertain Spanish champions, Atletico Madrid.

In the Championship tonight, Bournemouth have a chance to regain third place in the table as they travel to face Nottingham Forest. All three games will kick-off at 7:45.

Last night Mick McCarthy's Ipswich moved back up to third as they beat Birmingham 4-2 at Portman Road.

RUGBY

The Irish squad will continue training this morning at Carton House ahead of Sunday's hugely anticipated Six Nations contest with England at the Aviva.

Tommy O'Donnell will be hoping to play a part in training - the Munster flanker's recovery from a concussion injury is being monitored as he competes with Jordi Murphy for a starting role in the absence of Jamie Heaslip.

GAELIC FOOTBALL

The first round of the Leinster Under-21 football championship gets underway tonight.

Wexford will take-on Laois in Belfield. Elsewhere, Louth are at home to Carlow in Darver, and Wicklow visit Longford.

All three games will throw-in at 7.30.

GOLF

Davis Love the third has been given a second chance to captain the USA's Ryder Cup team.

He'll lead their challenge against holders Europe at Hazeltine in Minnesota next year.
