In the Champions League, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti's said his side deserved their place in the semi finals following last nights 1-0 with over Atletico Madrid at the Bernabau.

Javier Hernandez scored late for Real after the visitors had Arda Turan sent off.

Ancelotti says it was no less than his side deserved.

In the nights other game Juventus drew 0-0 away to Monaco meaning they go through 1-0 on aggregate.

Celtic are eight points clear at the top of the SPL.

They extended their advantage over second placed Aberdeen with a 2-1 win over Dundee.

Hoops manager Ronny Deila says he was impressed with how his side bounced back from defeat in the Scottish Cup semi-finals at the weekend.

GOLF

Damien McGrane is best of the Irish on day one of the Volvo China Open.

The Meath man ended level par after a round of 72 while Michael Hendry and Bradley Dredge share the lead on 4 under.

Michael Hoey ended his round on 4 under par.

GAELIC GAMES

Cork's footballers were strengthened last night, with the news Alan O'Connor is to rejoin the panel. 

The midfielder announced his inter-county retirement in November of 2013, but will link up with Brian Cuthbert's squad once more after the League final with Dublin. 

SNOOKER

The first round of the World Championships comes to a conclusion at The Crucible today. 

Shaun Murphy resumes 7-2 up on Robin Hull in the evening session, while this afternoon Judd Trump and Stuart Carrington will also play to a finish. 

The second round gets underway as well, with defending champion Mark Selby taking on Anthony McGill, and three-time champion John Higgins up against Ding Junhui. 

The first to 13 frames progress to round 3. 

HORSE RACING

There are seven races down for decision at Tipperary this evening where the first is off at 5.15.
