The Final Whistle: Dublin and Cork win in Thurles

HURLING

Cork left it late to beat Clare in the Hurling Qualifiers.
 
They scored five unanswered point late in the second half to win by 0-20 to 0-17.
 
Dublin earlier won through to the quarter finals of the All Ireland Hurling championship. 
 
A Dotsy O'Callaghan goal helped Ger Cunningham's men edge out Limerick 1-17 to 1-16.

GAELIC FOOTBALL

Kildare are the first side through to Round 4 of the Football Qualiferss.
 
They defeated Longford in Mullingar by 2-24 to 0-11. 
 
Meath manager Mick O'Dowd insists he won't quit after the Royals were beaten 1-10 to 0-11 by Tyrone in round 2B of the football qualifiers. 
 
Peter Harte's second half penalty ultimate proved to be the difference between the sides at Healy Park. 
 
Derry are also in the hat for the next round, after beating Wexford 1-16 to 0-10.
 
While the first game of the day at Semple Stadium saw Tipperary's footballers beat Louth 3-21 to 0-7.  

TENNIS 

Serena Williams says it's a "great feeling" to achieve the so-called "Serena Slam" for the second time in her career.
 
That means she now holds all four major singles titles - after winning Wimbledon for the sixth time.
 
Williams beat Spain's Garbine Muguruza in straight sets.

GOLF

It's been a disappointing day for Shane Lowry and Graeme McDowell at the Scottish Open. 
 
After both men started the day just three off the lead, both carded rounds of 72 to end the day on 6 under par. 
 
Lowry and McDowell are now a full six shots adrift of leader Daniel Brooks. 
 
Michael Hoey and Padraig Harrington both carded 70's today, and they're -5 and -4 respectively. 

SOCCER

In the SSE Airtricity League, Bray Wanderers earned a crucial victory at the Carlisle Grounds.
 
Mick Cooke's first game in charge saw his side beat Derry City 1-0. Adam Hanlon scored the games only goal.
 
Limerick remain at the foot of the table. They lost to Galway United 2-1 in Markets Field.
 
In the Shwgrouunds, Jospeh Ndo had his first win as Sligo Rovers manager as the home side beat Longford Town 3-2.
 
Cross channel, Bastian Schweinsteiger has arrived in England as he looks to complete his move to Manchester United. 
 
His current club Bayern Munich and United today announced they'd reached an agreement for the German World Cup-winner's transfer. 
 
Schweinsteiger now just needs to complete a medical and sign off on personal terms. 
 
Louis van Gaal's side have had a busy day. Serie A side Torino have confirmed the sale of Italian defender Matteo Darmian to the Old Trafford side.

CYCLING

Dan Martin finished in second place in today's eighth stage of the Tour de France. 
 
He moves up to 31st on general classification ahead of tomorrow's team time trial. 
 
Sky's Chris Froome continues to wear the leader's yellow jersey - he holds an 11-second lead over Peter Sagan.

MMA 

Conor McGregor fights Chad Mendes for the interim UFC featherweight title in Las Vegas in the small hours of tomorrow morning. 
 
The main event of UFC 189 isn't due to get underway until around 5am, Irish time.
