The Final Whistle: Harrington finds his wings in Connecticut

GAA

Derry manager Brian McIver has made just one change to his starting line-up ahead of Saturday's Ulster semi-final showdown with Donegal.

Cailean O'Boyle comes into the side that started the quarter-final win over Down and he will replace Benny Heron in the full-forward line.

Tyrone make two changes for Sunday's Round 1B qualifier against Limerick.

Manager Mickey Harte has responded to the disappointing defeat to Donegal in the Ulster championship as Ronan O'Neill and Tiernan McCann return to their attack at the expense of Barry Tierney and Cathal McShane.

Goalkeeper Mickey O'Neill holds on to his place ahead of Niall Morgan, while Lee Brennan and Richard Donnelly could both make their championship debuts after being named on the bench.

The Leitrim footballers have also made several changes ahead of their All Ireland qualifier against Louth on Saturday.

Kevin Conlan is the only member of the half-forward line that lost their Connacht quarter-final against Galway to retain his position as Danny Beck switches to wing-back and Fergal Clancy moves up to corner-forward.

Alan McLoughlin, Shane Quinn and Paddy McGowan all come into a re-worked attack.

Tipperary have beaten Clare to book their place in this year's Munster Minor Hurling final.

The home side needed to hold-on against a strong finish from Clare, who fought back from 10 points adrift at one stage to reduce the match to a one-score game going into the closing stages at Semple Stadium.

But Tipp were able to win out by 1-15 to 1-11 and set-up a final showdown with either Cork or Limerick on July 12th.

GOLF

Padraig Harrington has reeled off four bidies across his last five holes to move into contention during his opening round at the Traveler's Championship.

The three-time Major winner has moved to 3-under par after 15 holes in Connecticut, which leaves him just three shots off the pace.

Keegan Bradley is one of three clubhouse leaders on 6-under par.

Meanwhile, Kevin Phelan is tied for 10th place after the opening day at the BMW international Open in Munich.

Phelan carded two eagles during a 4-under par 68 today, which leaves him within three shots of the leaders Lasse Jensen, Daniel Gaunt and Rafa Cabrera-Bello.

SOCCER

Athlone Town have beaten Waterford United in the first game back after the mid-season break in the Airtricity League.

An 18th minute goal from Philip Gorman was enough for the Midlands side to claim a 1-0 win at the RSC that moves them up to fourth in the First Division table, while Waterford reamain rooted to the bottom.
