ATHLETICS

Thomas Barr and Mark English qualified for the semi finals of the 400m hurdles and the 800m, respectively in the World Championships in Beijing. Their semi-finals take place tomorrow.

Mo Farah also won Britain's first gold of the Championships with an exceptional showing in the Men's 10,000m final, while Usain Bolt ran a sub 10-second 100 metre sprint in his heat today.

GAA

Armagh and Dublin beat Donegal and Monaghan in their respective quarter-finals to book their places in the remaining semi-final berths of the All-Ireland women's football competition.

The final score of the Armagh game against Donegal was 2-13 to 2-11, while Dublin and Monaghan were separated by a single goal in a match that ended 1-13 to 0-13.

Wexford defeated Antrim by 12 points in the semi-final of the U-21 All-Ireland hurling. Wexford led by five at half-time and never looked back as Kevin Ryan's men couldn't handle the might of the Wexford hurlers.

Limerick emerged victorious from their clash against Galway to secure their place in the All-Ireland final by a score of 1-20 to 0-17.

GOLF

Peter Lawrie is tied for seventh in the Made in Denmark European Tour event at Himmerland Golf Course heading into the event's final day. He had entered the day just three behind but leader David Horsey pulled away and Lawrie shot a 70 to leave him seven shots behind the Englishman.

RUGBY

Ireland's women's sevens side had a mixed day at the Women's Sevens Dublin tournament today, as they put in a dominant display to beat Mexico 64-0. However, they faced a tougher test from South Africa in the later game, as they lost 17-5. The two sides could meet again tomorrow as both of them progress to the next round.
