Rory McIlroy went around the testing Chambers Bay course in 72 to end the day on 2-over par.

It was worse still for Graeme McDowell who is in the clubhouse on 4-over.

Darren Clarke's first round is just underway, while Shane Lowry tees off at 10.40pm tonight.

Dustin Johnson and Henrik Stenson are the early leader on 5-under par.
