The Final Whistle: Monaghan and Tyrone name their teams for Croker clash

GAA

Monaghan and Tyrone have named their teams ahead of Saturday's All-Ireland quarter-final clash at Croke Park.

Monaghan have selected the same side that started their Ulster final win over Donegal.

Tyrone make one change from their one-sided qualifier win over Sligo last weekend as Cathal McCarron returns to start at corner-back where he is likely to go up against Monaghan's Conor McManus.

 

Rory Brennan is the player to make way for McCarron, which means that Ronan McNabb to revert to wing-back.

That match will be live on Off The Ball this Saturday.

 

GOLF

Graeme McDowell holds a share of the lead on the opening day of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio.

McDowell has carded just one bogey so far today at the Firestone Country Club and sits on 4-under par after 15 holes, leaving him tied at the top of the leaderboard with Australian Danny Lee.

Padraig Harrington is on 1-over par after 13 holes today, while a disappointing bogey-bogey finish saw Shane Lowry card a level-par 70 earlier.

 

SOCCER

Everton have attempted to put an end to interest from the likes of Tottenham and Man City by giving James McCarthy a new contract.

The midfielder has signed a new five-year deal, which will keep the 24-year-old at Goodison Park up until 2020.

 

Southampton are through to the final round of qualfying for the Europa League.

The Saints completed a 5-0 aggregate victory over Vitesse of the Netherlands tonight with a 2-0 win away from home.

But West Ham have been dumped out by Romanian side Astra.

Despite taking the lead tonight against their hosts, the Hammers were beaten 2-1 in the second-leg to slump to a 4-3 defeat over both legs.

 

RUGBY

Joe Schmidt has admitted that Cian Healy could be brought to the Rugby World Cup even if he does not play any in the warm-up matches.

The Leinster prop is continuing his recovery from surgery on a disc in his neck, but has yet to take a full part in training with the rest of the squad.

Meanwhile, Keith Earls and Donnacha Ryan will both win their first Ireland caps since 2013 after they were included in the team for Saturday's warm-up match against Wales.

Aidan O'Brien landed an astonshing five winners today at Leopardstown, including the feature race of the evening at the Ballyroan Stakes.

The O'Brien trained Fields Of Athenry claimed a thrilling victory in the Group 3 contest after being sent off the odds-on favourite.
