The Kick Off: Katie Taylor goes toe to toe with hometown hero in Baku

Kerry manager Eamon Fitzmaurice has declared that he has got close to a clean bill of health ahead of next week's Munster final against Cork.

Kieran O'Leary is the only fitness concern for the Kingdom, which means that All-Stars Paul Murphy, David Moran and Paul Galvin are all available for the July 5th derby at Fitzgerald Stadium.

 

EUROPEAN GAMES

Katie Taylor steps back into the ring this morning at the European Games.

The London Olympic hero will have to overcome the home town favourite in her Lightweight final as she goes up against Yana Alekseevna of Azerbaijan.

Lightweight Sean McComb and Middleweight Michael O'Reilly are also involved in semi-finals this morning as they look to improve the squad's medal haul.

 

The Irish badminton squad are also making waves in Baku this week.

Chloe and Sam Magee will be full of confidence going into their Mixed Doubles Quarter-final against the Polish pairing after the Irish duo finished top of their group with three wins from three.

Scott Evans also remains unbeaten as he targets a medal in his Men's Singles Quarter-final against Emil Holst of Denmark.

Later this afternoon, Sam and Josh Magee will look to improve on their bronze medal as they face the Russia pair in the Men's Doubles Semi-finals.

Elsewhere today in Baku, Eoin Fleming begins his Judo in the Men's 73kg Elimination Round and there is 10 Irish swimmers in the pool for this morning's Heats.

 

GOLF

Kevin Phelan leads the Irish challenge heading into day two of the BMW International Open.

Phelan will tee-off this morning on 4-under par after yesterday's round of 68, which leaves him three shots off the pace.

 

Meanwhile, Padraig Harrington is also in contention at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut after a 66 overnight that leaves him four off the lead on 4-under par.

 

RACING

There is racing today at the Curragh where the Irish Derby Weekend officially kicks-off at 5.25pm
