The Kick Off: The CCCC to investigate Davy Byrne's injury

GAELIC GAMES

The Central Competition Controls Committee are to further investigate the incident that forced Dublin footballer Davy Byrne to spend two nights in hospital with facial injuries.

A review of a video by the CCCC failed to clarify the sequence of events, and lack of mention in the referee's report seemed to leave the matter at an end.

But after Jim Gavin told Off The Ball's Colm Parkinson that the players had what the Dublin manager termed a "frank discussion", further investigation is on the cards.

In hurling, Davy Fitzgerald will see out his term as Clare hurling manager.

The Banner's county board chair Michael McDonagh claims there will be no review of Fitzgerald's position, even though they've missed out on an All Ireland quarter final for the second year running.

Fitzgerald's current deal is set to run until the end of 2017.

Limerick are also set to keep faith with their hurling manager TJ Ryan after a meeting of their county board last night.

Former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri - and not O'Neill - was unveiled as Leicester City's new manager.

The Italian, whose last job was Greece's international manager, replaces Nigel Pearson and has signed a threeyear deal at the King Power Stadium.

The Limerick fighter faces a hometown bout with Billy Joe Saunders on September 19th, and the two will hold a press conference at the home of Munster rugby today.

Presale tickets go live at 9 this morning, before going on general sale at midday.

Meanwhile, four-time super middleweight champion Carl Froch has announced his retirement from the sport at the age of 38.

The Nottingham boxer moves into TV punditry after claiming he has nothing left to prove in the sport.

CYCLING

After yesterday's rest day, the Tour de France enters the Pyrenees today.

Dan Martin begins the day best of the Irish - he's 31st on general classification.

Nicolas Roche begins in 72nd, while Sam Bennett is 177th.

The man who wears yellow today is Roche's Sky team-mate Chris Froome.

The peloton will today make the 167 kilometre trek from Tarbes before finishing with an haute category climb up the Col de Soudet.

PARALYMPICS

There was medal success for Ireland at the IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow yesterday.

Wexford's Darragh McDonald claimed bronze in the S6 400 metre Freestyle final.

Nicole Turner and Ellen Keane compete for Ireland in the pool today.
