Blade Thomson to make Scotland debut as Hogg retained for France clash

Blade Thomson will make his long-awaited Scotland debut in Saturday's rematch with France at Murrayfield.

The Scarlets number 8 missed the autumn internationals and Six Nations with concussion.

Full-back Stuart Hogg is the only player retained in the starting line-up by head coach Gregor Townsend, following last weekend's 32-3 defeat to France in Nice.

Townsend is confident he "will see a better performance" after seeing his side ship five tries last week.

"We referenced a game in the changing room where we missed a performance against Wales a year ago and turned round in a week with a very good performance against France.

"The physical drive has to be right across the team. The players know that and know that is what should happen every time they play for Scotland," he hold Scottish Rugby's official website.

"If last week was a reminder to us all that if you don't do that, you are going to come to a big loss, then we don't need another reminder."

Scrum-half Greig Laidlaw skippers the side as New Zealand born Thomson joins Hamish Watson and Ryan Wilson in the back row.

Out-half Finn Russell and experienced wings Sean Maitland and Tommy Seymour are also recalled to the side while Scott Cummings gets his first Test start.

Scotland: Hogg, Seymour, Harris, P Horne, Maitland, Russell, Laidlaw (capt); Reid, Turner, Nel, Cummings, Skinner, Wilson, Watson, Thomson.

Replacements: Stewart, Dell, Berghan, Gilchrist, Barclay, G Horne, Hutchinson, Kinghorn.
