After Brazil's 7-1 defeat to Germany on home soil at last summer's World Cup, there was talk that it would prompt football principles and development to be revolutionised.
On the face of it, tangible change has not been seen in the past year but the Selecao's Copa America exit at the hands of Paraguay on penalties may see soul-searching which actually searches for credible answers.
"It emphasises that all the aura of Brazil has completely evaporated and you could very much see that in the match on Saturday night. You could see with Paraguay that they had absolutely no fear of them," said football writer Miguel Delaney who joined Off The Ball on the line directly from the Estadio Nacional in Santiago, Chile, where the first semi-final between the host nation and Peru will take place tonight.
Miguel also suggested that there is a growing mood for change within Brazilian football.
"There seems to be much more of a clamour for a German-style restructuring than there was after the 7-1. The country is obviously obsessed with the World Cup more than the Copa America but there's beginning to be a realisation that what's happening could affect future World Cups. But those in power still seem to be resistant to it," he explained.
