Coronavirus fears sees Italy vs Scotland women's match postponed

Italy vs Scotland in the Women’s Six Nations has been postponed due to fears over the coronavirus.

The game was set to take place this evening at the Stadio Giovanni Mari in Legnano in the north-western part of the Metropolitan City of Milan.

However, after the death of two people in Lombardy, Italian authorities have decided to call off all sporting fixtures in the Lombardy and Veneto regions.

Other options are now being explored, with both the Federazione Italiana Rugby (FIR) and the Scottish Rugby Union (SRU) looking to reschedule the fixture at a later date.

Irish referee Joy Neville was set to take charge of the match.

Giuseppe Conte, the Italian Prime Minister, announced at a news conference on Saturday evening, "Minister of Sport (Vincenzo) Spadafora intends to suspend all sporting events planned for Sunday in the Veneto and Lombardy regions."

The suspension also affects several Serie A games, including the matches between Inter Milan and Sampdoria, Atalanta versus Sassuolo, and Verona against Cagliari.
