David Meyler lifts the lid on his love for 'FIFA' and gaming

On the pitch, David Meyler is fully focused on trying to revive Ireland's 2018 World Cup qualifying hopes but off it, the Cork man has a love for FIFA - the video game series to be precise.

The 28 year old Hull City midfielder has attracted a large following on Youtube with 229,786 subscribers to his channel. So with a busy life on and off the field, where does he get the time to play FIFA so regularly?

"My daughter goes to bed between 7 and half 7 and then my fiance goes to bed between half 7 and 8 and I don't know many Irish families that go to bed quite early so from 8 o'clock till the best part of 11, I'm free to play," he said as Off The Ball's Dave McIntyre caught up with him for a chat.

With plans to keep playing football professionally until the age of 36, the growing industry of professional gaming could be an option when he hangs up his boots.

"Who knows? But while I'm playing, I'm enjoying playing computer games because it's just a different hobby. Some professional footballers turn to drink, some turn to gambling and I've managed to turn to FIFA so everyone has different ways of doing things," said the 28 year old.

But he added that he plays when the "time is right" in order not to impact his career.

David Meyler was speaking at the launch of EA SPORTS™ FIFA 18 which is out now! Pick up your match programme in the Aviva when the Republic of Ireland meet Moldova and find out how you can win a copy of the game and take on the Irish International face to face
