Donald Trump golf course stripped of major championship by PGA

The Donald Trump-owned Trump Bedminster in New Jersey will no longer host the PGA Championship in 2022, it has been confirmed.

The major championship next year was due to be played at the course owned by the outgoing President of the United States of America.

However the PGA Tour of America confirmed last night that they will no longer be bringing their tournament to the New Jersey venue, owing to the now toxic brand created by Donald Trump.

It comes less than a week after supporters of the president staged a riot on the Capitol in Washington DC.

In a statement, the PGA of America's president Jim Richardson said:

"It has become clear that conducting the PGA Championship at Trump Bedminster would be detrimental to the PGA of America brand, it would put at risk the PGA’s ability to deliver our many programmes and sustain the longevity of our mission.

"Our board has thus made the decision to exercise our right to terminate the contract to hold the 2022 PGA Championship at Trump Bedminster."

Trump Bedminster had been awarded the hosting rights for next year's championship back in 2012, four years before he became the 45th president of the United States.

The Trump Organisation have reacted badly to the PGA's decision.

A statement from the organisation reads:

"We have had a beautiful partnership with the PGA of America and are incredibly disappointed with their decision.

"This is a breach of a binding contract and they have no right to terminate the agreement.

"As an organization we have invested many, many millions of dollars in the 2022 PGA Championship at Trump National Golf Club, Bedminster."

The PGA will now begin the search for a new venue, with the tournament set to take place in May of 2022.
