Jordan Flores' wonder-goal takes on different sheen with new angle

The talk of the footballing world from Friday evening onward, an alternative angle of that Jordan Flores' goal for Dundalk takes just a hint of the sheen off the end product.

In a game that may well be forgotten for the fact that Shamrock Rovers actually won 3-2 in Tallaght, Dundalk's Jordan Flores captured all the headlines with an acrobatic wonder-strike that had brought the reigning League of Ireland champions level at 1-1.

A finish that was difficult to comprehend at first viewing, an alternative angle has perhaps taken just some of the sheen off Flores' goal.

Garnering praise from all corners of football's Twitter community, even FIFA were touting it as a potential Puskas award winner shortly after the original footage of the goal went online.

An alternative angle casts some shadow on what was originally thought to be a bullet effort into the top corner, however.

Tweeted out by the former Republic of Ireland striker Stephen Elliott, even he seemed pretty upset at having to consider that Flores' goal was not exactly as it had seemed.

It would appear that Shamrock Rovers' Alan Mannus got a pretty decent hand to Flores' effort but was incapable of keeping the shot out, nevertheless.

For the former Republic of Ireland 'keeper Wayne Henderson, this new detail is enough to remove the shot from the lofty contention of the Puskas 'Best Goal' award.

"A Puskas winning goal has to be unstoppable," he wrote on his Twitter account in response to Elliott. "Must be said that it is incredible technique, [though]."

Across the weekend that followed, Jordan Flores' goal was shown everywhere from Soccer AM to Match of the Day. Unanimously, the response was one of outright astonishment.

It remains to be seen whether this alternative angle of the goal gives people cause to reconsider their assessment of the strike.
