"What happened wasn't right" - Anthony Cunningham on Galway exit factors

Former Galway senior hurling manager Anthony Cunningham has touched on the turn of events that led to his departure from the role in 2015, explaining that there was "no rancour" within the panel.

Speaking to Off The Ball as he reflected on Sunday's Allianz League final between Galway and Tipperary, Cunningham touched on how his time with Galway came to an end.

"I've moved on from that. What happened wasn't right and probably a number of the key guys who were involved in that maybe aren't present now and not involved now,"he said.

"I think everybody recognises that the manner of it etc, etc wasn't good. For me, it wasn't sport. It was definitely trying to wreck someone's head really, if you want to go down that route."

Cunningham also talked about the atmosphere in the camp during his time in charge.

"There was never rancour there," he said, adding that there were "brilliant performances" during his tenure including an epic win over Tipp in an All Ireland semi final in 2015.

"To me, it was just guys who were probably saw the end of the road of their careers for some of them and knew that there were a lot of new players coming on the block. And that was our policy that we had to try new players and get them moulded and gamble that you get them developed."

Cunningham also touched on Galway's win over Tipp this Sunday, as the Tribesmen surprisingly outclassed the All Ireland winners in the league final.

"[They] answered a lot questions, particularly in defence. We all know how good the attack is," he said.
