Cavan GAA confirm no request will be made to change semi-final venue

The Cavan county board has released a statement to say that there will be no request made to change the venue of their All-Ireland semi-final.

The newly crowned Ulster senior football champions are set to face the five-in-a-row All-Ireland champions Dublin in their last four encounter at Croke Park on Saturday, 5 December.

There have been calls from some pundits and former players to move the match out of GAA HQ where some feel Dublin have an advantage due to their familiarity with the pitch and dressing rooms.

However those calls have not been echoed by Cavan GAA.

"Cavan Co Board would like to clarify that they absolutely and categorically have never considered, nor, have they any intention of applying for a venue change for the upcoming All Ireland Semi Final Fixture," reads the statement.

"We are honoured and look forward to playing the All Ireland Semi Final as is fixed by the CCC."

It is not just Cavan GAA officials that want their big day to go ahead, as planned, on the Jones' Road.

This will be the first time that Cavan have appeared in the last four since 1997 when they were beaten by the eventual champions, Kerry.

Following a discussion about moving the match to a neutral venue between former Kerry footballer Mike Quirke and former Mayo player David Brady on Monday night's Off The Ball, Cavan goalkeeper and captain Raymond Galligan expressed an opposing view the following night.

"It isn't something that has been spoken about at all," Raymond Galligan admitted to OTB Sports, "and it really doesn't bother me.

"Obviously, playing in Croke Park is lovely because that's where you always wanted to play and sure look, when you're playing the Dubs, you might as well play them on the biggest stage.

"It makes no difference, and I live in Dublin sure so I just have to tip over the road."
