Cavan's Mattie McGlennan: "We've come along way"

Cavan and Kerry played out an exciting draw in the Allianz Football League at Breffni Park on Sunday.

It finished Cavan 1-10 Kerry 0-13 and speaking to Off the Ball's Dave McIntyre after the match, Cavan manager Mattie McGlennan said: "We've come along way in the last three or four months. I think the games every week has stood to us. In terms of our development of a team and development as a squad we've had to learn fast. We've had to learn to deal with what's happening on the football field but in fairness to the boys - they're fantastic.

"With the fifteen guys that started out the game, I think we used another five or six subs today and everybody that came in added something to the game. That's what it takes to win at this level and to even get a point at this level.

"It's fabulous to be playing against Kerry. It's the reason why you get out of bed in the morning to play the likes of these teams and enjoy the moment. There's a great Cavan crowd here today and it's just been a tremendous football match."

Looking ahead to the final round of games he said: "I would dearly love them to stay up, absolutley. I think to get a trip to Killarney next year and go back to Croke Park with these boys would be fabulous but that's out of our hands. All we can deal with is the present time.

"We need to recover right now. We have to go to Roscommon and I don't care what anybody says. They might not have won a game but Roscommon is going to want a result next week to kickstart them walking into the Connacht championship so it's another huge game that we have to prepare for," he added.
