"Champions League style" Championship restructuring is supported by 31 county squads

Could the GAA be moving closer to seeing the Football Championship restructured?

A report in today's Irish Daily Mail suggests that 31 of the 32 county squads support the GPA's proposal for a Champions League style restructuring of the Senior Football Championship.

The proposed structure, which would commence in 2017 would see the National League and Provincial Championships retained, with those competitions helping seedings for the All Ireland Championship.

Newstalk Sport's Oisin Langan spoke to Philip Lanigan from the Irish Daily Mail who broke the news.

Lanigan said the players "want more games" and added there is "a huge push for change" among inter county squads.
