Charlie Vernon: "That's football - players make mistakes, officials make mistakes"

Armagh's Charlie Vernon was delighted to get past Tipperary in Thurles after the Premier County got the better of them in the National League earlier this year.

The Ulstermen recorded a two point win on Saturday and speaking to Off the Ball's Dave McIntyre after the match, he said: "Yeah, we're delighted with the result. We know Tipp are a good side, a strong side. They pipped us in the last game in the league so it was probably in the back of our heads coming down here today but we got our scores and we should have had a bit of a lead to defend.

"Throughout the year, we've probably given those leads away so we're delighted that we held the lead today and closed the game out. It wasn't pretty but for this Armagh team we just need results," he added.

The referee called back play on a couple of occasions but Vernon readily admitted it was part of the game. "It was extremely disappointing in the first half," he said, adding: "When you're in the full-back line, you sometimes don't get a great view of it but it looked like advantage should have been allowed play-on for the goal but listen, that's football - players make mistakes, officials make mistakes, but you kind of just have to roll with it whatever way it happens.

Looking ahead to the remainder of the season and how they have improved since losing to Down in the Ulster Championship, Vernon said: "Mentally I think we're in a better place. In terms of the physical element of it, I don't think we're any fitter it's just a case that we're a bit more organised and maybe a bit more streetwise when we have the ball."
