Cian O'Neill: 'You'd love to say it's about the performance, but it's about the win'

Kildare boss Cian O'Neill admits that getting a victory in their Leinster SFC semi-final clash with Meath was more important than producing a good performance.

The Lilywhites booked their spot in the final at Croke Park on July 16 and speaking to Off The Ball's Dave McIntyre after the game, O'Neill outlined why the win was so important.

"When you're in the stage of a competition where you've lost the last seven fixtures, it's all about the win," he said.

"You'd love to say it's about the performance, but you just want to get over the line. Today we got the performance and the win, I'm absolutely thrilled."

Kildare advance to their first Leinster final since 2009, where they they were beaten by seven points by Dublin.

Kildare are expected to meet the reigning All-Ireland champions in the final next month and O'Neill says that they have the tools to cause any team problems.

"We always try and play at a high tempo. If the lads buy into it, with the quality we have, we'll always threaten teams. It was enough to beat Meath and the next challenge will move us forward."
