Dan Shanahan: "Davy Fitzgerald is rubbing his hands below now that they're playing Waterford"

Waterford overcame Kilkenny after an end-to-end affair in Semple Stadium at the weekend to progress in the All-Ireland qualifiers.

Dan Shanahan joined Monday's Off the Ball to discuss the epic win and speaking to Joe Molloy, he said: "Great game, great result for Waterford.

"It's been a great couple of days to be honest with you, for the supporters and the players. To beat Kilkenny is fantastic...we have to park that now.

"Since the Cork game: It's been tough, a lot of criticism came our way after the Cork defeat but I think we got a nice draw in Offaly, with respect to Offaly, to get back on the horse. and I was actually looking at John (Mullane) during the game that day and I actually text him after the match to see what he thought to see his opinion on our lads and...he couldn't get over the intensity.

"We have good days and we celebrate and we have bad days and we commiserate. Things didn't work out in the Cork game for us. We didn't stick to our game-plan to be honest. As I said we park that and...now we're ready for the next game.

"Davy Fitzgerald is rubbing his hands below now thinking he's got a good opportunity to beat Waterford."

Reflecting on the pressure going into the Kilkenny game and asked if he was feeling the pressure, he said: "Personally I wasn't Joe...I take every game as it comes. Same as the Cork defeat hurt us, we re-grouped straight away. We got on, Offaly and beat Offaly with a bit to spare to be honest. Kilkenny really built themselves up against Limerick . They played well...you try to beat what is in front of you."
