David Brady on Mayo urine samples: "If it wasn't white - it wasn't right"

Kerry and Mayo face off in one of this season's All-Ireland semi-finals and the Saturday panel looked back at some of the big games between the sides over the years.

Mayo's David Brady and Kerry's Declan O'Sullivan and Darragh O'Sé joined Nathan Murphy on Off the Ball ahead of the the big match on Sunday.

Brady recalled some odd training techniques ahead of the 2006 All-Ireland final where Kerry cantered to a 4-15 to 3-5 victory.

Mayo beat Galway to win the Connacht Championship that year before overcoming Laois and Dublin on the way to the meeting with Kerry.

Reflecting on what went wrong in the lead-up to the game, Brady said: "Look, you say 'what didn't work right?' but we had, I think it was a week before, we had a training camp in Johnstown house and at the time...you put a lot into your training camps 10 days before an All-Ireland but we were doing urine tests.

"And, if it wasn't white - it wasn't right in our eyes. Don't be looking at me funny!"

Explaining the idea to the panel, Brady continued: "So, you'd give the sample before training and you would have it tested. It was a simple test where it says 'you're hydrated or you're not hydrated enough' and if you weren't hydrated - you weren't playing (training).

"What happened was that we trained at half eight in the morning. Now, many a time I've gotten up in the morning and you're never hydrated. You are never hydrated in the morning and I think we called off training.

"We had no real "A" versus "B" and I'm not saying it's an excuse but them kind of games are vital because it's the only thing you'll do for the next ten days (leading up to the final).
