GAA fixture issue will reach 'tipping point' - Dessie Farrell

The issue of changing the GAA calendar will reach a "tipping point" in the next year according to Gaelic Players Association Chief Executive Dessie Farrell.

Speaking to Off The Ball tonight, Farrell touched on a number of areas and says there definitely needs to be a "streamlining of the calendar".

"I think it'll reach a tipping point where people will realise we need to sit down and sort this out once and for all," he said.

"I think you'll see some movement on this in the next year."

He added that the "provincial competitions in three provinces are broken" and would like to see a model that leads to more meaningful Championship games and dedicated weekends for club games.

The GPA launched their annual report yesterday and Farrell says they are encouraging players to be more assertive.

"It's a conversation we have been having with our players particularly in the last 12 - 24 months in relation to being more assertive in relation to informing the managing team of the services that are available to players, and in some ways that may provide an opportunity to begin that discussion about the importance of life outside of sport."
