After a year of unprecedented success for the Dublin footballers, new intercounty manager Dessie Farrell has big boots to fill.

Although he may not admit it nearly everyone in the county will be expecting his side to pick up a record sixth All-Ireland title.

Speaking to Off The Ball's John Duggan, Farrell played down the expectations of another record-setting year but highlighted his desire for "even greater standards".

"Kerry are a huge threat," Farrell noted on the topic of who could challenge the Dubs this year.

"I think everybody knows that they are a coming team and coming to it with a full deck. Their trajectory looks very, very impressive but it's not just Kerry.

"I think if you look at Cork last year they put Dublin to the pin of the collar for a long time."

The former Dublin minor manager added that for the first time in a number of seasons his side could also face a challenge in Leinster.

"Look at Meath, new management in Kildare and obviously our first game against Westmeath in the Championship – we'll be looking no further than them.

"Then in Connacht, there's new management in Galway. Mayo: We know what they have and they have been knocking on the door for numerous years now.

"And then up north you have Donegal, Tyrone and teams like that who are young and enthusiastic and I'd say have a great, great appetite to get Dublin off their pedestal.

Describing his new job as a "great privilege", Farrell admitted that the team is yet to set any big goals as a group: "It's very early days. We still have to sit down.

"We haven't discussed any big game plans or big visions for the next three years. What I can say is the players themselves have obviously set very high standards and I don't see them stepping back from that and I'll be encouraging them to pursue even greater standards in the season ahead."
