Donegal County Executive meeting to replace Jim McGuinness

The Donegal county executive convenes tonight, with finding a replacement for Jim McGuinness a top priority.

McGuinness stepped down from the coaching the senior football team after four years in charge, a reign which saw his side win the 2012 All-Ireland title and led them to this year’s final.

Rory Gallagher, assistant during the 2012 All Ireland-winning season, is favourite to succeed McGuinness.

Meanwhile, Ger Cunningham is the favourite to be named as the new Dublin hurling manager, succeeding Anthony Daly. Daly, who led the Dublin team to their first Leinster title in 52 years in 2013, stepped down in September after a six-year stint.

This morning's Examiner reports that Cunningham, a former Cork goalkeeper, is the preferred choice of county board officials, and could be confirmed in the job by the week's end.
