Why craic is vital in an inter-county dressing room

Donncha O'Connor was one of the experienced heads in the Cork dressing room yesterday as they went to Killarney and came so close to dethroning Munster champions Kerry in the final.

A late Kerry point meant both sides will have to renew acquaintances to decide this year's provincial decider.

But at the age of 34, 2010 All-Ireland winner O'Connor is one of the older players in the Cork squad and on Off The Ball tonight he told us how he puts his experience across to the younger players.

"You can try and force it and try and be something that you're not and try and be a leader. But to be fair, I'd have a bit of craic in the dressing room with even the younger lads and stuff like that," he said.

"You could be there saying 'I'm not going to have as much craic with the young lads' because they'll probably say 'this fella doesn't take it serious'. But I think having a bit of craic with them, they realise then that you can have a bit of craic in this business and be serious then when you need to be. I think we have a good blend there now and everyone gets on. [The older lads left in the Cork team], we're not trying to be leaders and change our personality, we just be the same way. Little simple things is all we do."

O'Connor also reacted to the Munster final draw and also discussed what influence, if any, pre-match criticism had had on Brian Cuthbert's side.
