'It was a fairytale' - Take our Kildare v Dublin nostalgia trip

When Kildare go up against Dublin in the Leinster championship semi-final this Sunday, the gap between the counties will be huge.

But back in 2000, Kildare shocked the Dubs by a 2-11 to 0-12 scoreline in the provincial final replay - the 13th and (so far) last time they have won the trophy.

Kildare's Dermot Earley was one of the goalscorers in that game and tonight he joined us on Off The Ball alongside Dublin's top scorer on the day with 0-3, Collie Moran to look back on that match.

"The way it worked out, it was a fairytale," said Earley, "You always dream, when you're playing Dublin, to score a goal in front of Hill 16 and celebrate as well, looking at them on the hill. But I remember when I got that goal, I didn't and turned straight back around and right back out the field because I was out midfield."

In stark contrast to the Dubs' current dominance in Leinster, Moran is amazed by the change in landscape provincially since his era which was a team in transition.

"At that stage we were five years without a Leinster, didn't win in 2000 and had to wait another two years. So it does seem mad that Dublin this summer are going for their 10th Leinster final in 11 years," said Moran.
