Enda McGinley says Fermanagh made a huge statement by dropping Seamus Quigley

Former Tyrone player Enda McGinley has praised Rory Gallagher’s decision to drop Seamus Quigley for last weekend’s Ulster championship semi-final victory over Monaghan.

Underdogs Fermanagh overcame the odds on Sunday to beat Monaghan by a single point in Omagh.

The three-time All-Ireland winning player joined Joe Molloy Tuesday’s OTB to look back at last weekend’s Championship games.

“We’ve seen Fermanagh bring serious conditioning because famously they’ve been out since October, working exceptionally hard. They were sort of been laughed at, at the time but it’s paying off, and they’ve massive conditioning and they needed that on Sunday,’ Said McGinley.

He believes Gallagher’s implementation of a uncompromising and dedicate game plan, along with the disciplined decision to drop Seamus Quigley were key to Fermanagh’s victory.

Quigley was left on the bench, and unused by Gallagher due to breaking a rule. McGinley says both paid dividends in deciding the outcome of the semi-final.

“They’ve a simple, hard working game plan that suits their abilities. They went without their key forward. That was a huge statement by Rory Gallagher to drop Seamus Quigley, out of principle because he has set a rule. Seamus Quigley broke it, and he dropped him. He refused to use him even though Fermanagh were going deep into their subs, towards the latter end of that game, and a famous result was on the cards. He still refused to use him. That show their strength of unity, and a team that really knows what they are about."
