'I had my mind made up when I was leaving Croke Park'

There was a bit of a school reunion in the Off The Ball studio as two hurling greats shared the mics.

Recently retired Eoin Kelly of Tipperary and Kilkenny's Jackie Tyrell both attended the renowned St Kieran's College in Kilkenny and we had the pleasure of having both men in studio.

Just over a week after announcing his intercounty retirement, Kelly revealed that his mind was made up immediately after this year's All Ireland final, citing limited game-time.

"I was contemplating it all summer and definitely after the All Ireland final, I suppose not getting game-time, I had my mind made up when I was leaving Croke Park that it's the last time I'm going to be seeing this place," he admitted.

Kelly also felt his personal peak came around 2005 and 2006, while he also gave his perspective on Tipp's return to the top table between 2009 and 2011.

They both also spoke about the extent of the rivalry between Kilkenny and Tipp, and why hatred did not fester off the pitch.

"I went to school with Eoin, Shane McGrath, Conor O'Mahony and we had the utmost respect. It was mutual. I think that respect still exists between us," said Tyrell.
