GAA community in mourning following the tragic death of Offaly teen

The Offaly GAA community is still coming to terms with the sudden death of one of its most vibrant footballers who died tragically while working on the family farm.

19 year-old Adam Mangan from Kilclonfert was using a trailer when it is believed he suffered fatal head injuries in the surrounding area of Rhode yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were immediately called but they pronounced the talented footballer dead at the scene. He was later transferred to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore where a post mortem examination was conducted today.

Adam Mangan was a member of the 2013 and 2014 Offaly minor football panels. He was also an instrumental player for the Daingean-parish side St. Vincent's who he played a pivotal role for in their historic win in the U21FC final last year. His sporting exploits also made him a valued member of the Tullamore rugby club and he also made appearances for Leinster. Adam's younger brother Cathal played in midfield for the Offaly minor team who lost this year's Leinster quarter-final to Kildare.

Tributes have been pouring in on social media since the news of his untimely death broke.

His club Kilclonfert wrote a touching message on their Facebook account in honour of their fallen teammate. "The darkest of clouds is cast over Kilclonfert this evening as news of the terribly tragic and untimely death of one of our fine young players, Adam Mangan has occurred. Words just don't describe the sadness that is in our club and community tonite. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ray, Janette, Shane, Mark & Cathal and all their extended family and friends."

Meanwhile several friends of Adam Mangan have also posted personal tributes on his own Facebook page. The Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority are currently investigating the incident.
