GALLERY: Kilkenny win the first silverware of 2017

Kilkenny launched their recovery from the All-Ireland final defeat, with a win over Galway in the Walsh Cup final today.

Richie Hogan picked 0-11 on the way to a two point victory in Nowlan Park. Brian Cody's charges led by three at the break following a first half in which both goalkeepers were required to make saves.

Galway of course were without the services of stalwart forward Joe Canning, who is still nursing a serious hamstring injury he sustained during last year's All-Ireland semi-final against Tipperary.

The Portumna man's presence around the square could have accounted for the deficit had he been available for selection. The sides are poised to meet again at some point again during 2017, where Canning could get a chance to make up for lost time in Galway's ongoing rivalry with Kilkenny.
