'It's the miscarriage of justice we all wanted'

Austin Gleeson will be available for selection for the All Ireland Hurling Final on September 3rd.

The Waterford hurler has escaped disciplinary action after pulling the helmet from the head of Cork's Luke Meade during Sunday's semi-final.

The CCCC considers the first half incident to have been dealt with following submission of the referee's report.

Shane Stapleton and Kieran Cunningham joined Joe Molloy to discuss the news.

Kieran believes that, "Things seem to go out the window when it comes to All Ireland semi-finals," and that officials tend to show sympathy to players facing potential final suspensions.

"That's GAA for you" Shane added, summing up the situation.

He believes that the incident left fans of the sport facing a dilemma as by the rule of law Gleeson should miss the match, but doing so would takeaway from the spectacle when Waterford and Galway clash in three weeks' time.

"It's lead to the 'miscarriage of justice' that we all wanted," he concluded.

The Cualaman added that there is a risk that the GAA has set a dangerous precedent by failing to punish Gleeson and that it needs to make the rules clear:

"Once you've decided it's deliberate there should be no grey area ... The onus is on the player, don't touch a helmet."

"It's incredibly dangerous."

Having remained on the pitch Gleeson's goal after the clash helped Waterford to a 4-19 to 0-20 victory over the Rebels.
