In Pictures: Kilkenny oust Tipperary in rip roaring contest

Kilkenny 2-17 Tipperary 0-18

Kilkenny struck late to get the better of fierce rivals Tipperary in a rip roaring league contest at Nowlan Park in front of a crowd of 10,982 earlier today.

In a game that will serve as a fantastic advertisement for the league, the fast paced, skilful encounter was settled late on thanks to two goals from Kevin Kelly, snatching victory from under the noses of Tipperary.

The Premier County led for the majority of the game, with Kilkenny taking the lead for the first time in the game after Kelly's 67th minute goal, before seeing out the win in emphatic fashion with another goal.

At times, it looked like Tipperary could open up a big score as on multiple occasions they opened up a big lead and looked comfortable against a much changed Kilkenny outfit, but failed to shake off the home side.

However, to their credit, the reigning All-Ireland champions kept in touch with Hurler of the Year TJ Reid and Man of the Match John Maher leading the charge.

Eventually, the pressure told as their late assault on the Tipp goal proved enough to take home the points.
