James Horan: Donegal better than they were and will only get better

I think two things have happened since Jim McGuinness' time and since Rory [Gallagher] has taken over.

You've certain players who have just developed into unbelievable players. So you need to adjust your game to make yourself more effective based on their skills and I'm obviously talking about Michael Murphy at the peak of his powers, Patrick McBrearty as well and you've Odhran Mac Niallais.

They're three forwards who are top level inter-county forwards. They're above the normal inter-county forward.

When you have players of that ability who can win their own ball in the air, shoot off both sides and are very accurate passers, they've all the skillsets.

When you have guys like that when you set up, in a way it's to make sure that you maximise their skillset.

That played into Rory's hand in that those players were just so good that you naturally had to become more of an attacking team.

But it's definitely a change and for me and I think Donegal are better than they were.

I think their attacking sense and their precision, skill execution is just phenomenal and great to watch.

Their hand passing and foot passing, for me, is the best in the country ahead of Kerry, Dublin and Mayo as regards skill execution.

And I don't think they ever got the credit for that and what they have now is that Neil Gallagher can go in, Michael Murphy can come out, Mac Niallais can play centre half-back, centre half-forward or full-forward, McBrearty can come out to midfield.

Over the last couple of years, they've developed that confidence in themselves and now it's second nature.

Because of the culture, they have up there from Jim McGuinness' time, continuous improvement and taking calculated risks, they're going to continuously evolve.

They can change and adapt in games now. They can go back if they need to now and lock down a game, they can go back to the fundamentals of where they were four years ago or they can go more attacking if they need to be - and not just when they're losing games. They might go more attacking when they are three or four points up and they might go for blood now.

If they went three or four points up a few years ago, they might have sat back.

So they are changing and they are the most dangerous animal out there.
