John Kiely: "I'm very happy with the performance"

Limerick manager John Kiely was pleased with his side's performance despite losing to Clare in the Munster Hurling Championship.

The Banner won by 3-17 to 2-16 in an entertaining affair on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to Newstalk Sport's Oisin Langan afterwards, he said: "I'm very happy with the performance. I think we kept ourselves right into the game until that last five/ten minute period.

"The game got away from us at the outset. We dug it back out. We got it to a draw. We let it slip a little bit just before half-time.

"I think the goals and the timing of the goals were crucial in the outcome of the game. They allowed Clare to have a bit of breathing space and prevented us from closing the gap to a point where we could apply real pressure.

"Especially in that closing stretch, we needed to close it to one or two and really put them under pressure because they were under severe pressure coming into the game. This was a game they just had to win for the team that has been together for the last five years.

"We just wanted to get to that point of the game where it was in the melting pot and be a little bit closer. We struggled to do that," he added.

Clare move on to a provincial final against either Cork or Waterford.
