Johnny Buckley nominated as Kerry captain

Johnny Buckley has been nominated as Kerry senior football captain for 2017.

The Dr. Crokes clubman, who captained his side to glory in the All-Ireland club glory in March, was put forward by the Killarney outfit.

The 27-year-old made his championship debut for the Kingdom in 2012 against Cork. Buckley was part of the squad that won the All-Ireland title in 2014, as well as claiming three Munster titles.

With Dr. Crokes, the forward won four Kerry titles and three Munster titles.

Buckley didn't feature for Kerry for this year's league campaign, instead returning from injury to help see Dr. Croke's past Derry side Slaughtneil in the All-Ireland club championship final.

Fionn Fitzgerald will be vice captain for the year.
