Cork manager Keiran Kingston admitted Waterford were the better side on the day as the Deise progressed to an All-Ireland final date with Galway.
Speaking to Off the Ball's Oisin Langan after the match he said: "We got caught with a couple of sucker punches when you concede goals. We still went after the game. We didn't apply a sweeper - we went man-for-man and we got caught down the middle for a couple of goals and after that you're fighting and you're chasing. The more you go after it, the more open you are.
Asked whether the red card was the turning point in the match he said: "We haven't sat down and analysed the game yet but...we lost a man, went man-on-man. We didn't have a spare player, they had on the other side and we still went after the game.
"We conceded a goal straight after the sending off and that wasn't ideal so we had to go after it again.
"If you look at the stats from the first half, our tackle count was ahead, our possession was ahead, we were going playing with a breeze in the second half so there was a lot in our favour at half-time.
Asked if he would have considered winning the Munster title as a good year before the start of the season, considering where his team have come from, he said: "Yeah, we probably would have signed up to it. As I say, many people's commentary on us this year will probably be that we are ahead of the curve or ahead of where we thought we would be and we made more progress and all the rest of it but that's outside the camp.
"Inside the camp we are very ambitious...we felt we had a right chance to get into a final and look, circumstances dictated otherwise."
