Kerry beat All-Ireland champions Cork to claim Munster U-20 title

Kerry dethroned Cork last night to reclaim the Eirgrid Munster Under-20 Championship.

Eighteen months ago the Kingdom's minors recorded the first-ever five-in-a-row in Gaelic Football as they beat Galway to claim a fifth successive All-Ireland title.

It seems that developing players beyond minor level is not a fear as they last night saw past Cork to keep the young gun's march going.

It looked though as if Cork, who won the All-Ireland at this age last year, were going to make it back-to-back provincial successes when Blake Murphy found the back of the net in the 25th minute, nine minutes after a Ruaidhri O Beaglaoich shot on goal was saved by Cork defender David Buckley.

Even after kicking four scoreable shots short into Marc Kelliher’s hands Keith Ricken's side looked in control and it seemed they had luck on their side too as Kerry were wasteful - sending five shots wides.

However, after going in four points down at the break, John Sugrue's side outscored the Rebels 11 points to 3 in the second half to win out 0-17 to 1-9 at Austin Stack Park in Tralee.

Paul Walsh sent three frees through the posts while O Beaglaoich got five points to his name with Paul O'Shea, who co-captained the Kingdom to history a year-and-a-half ago, was also impressive.

Sugrue's youngsters now have an All-Ireland semi-final against Galway or Roscommon on St Patrick's Day to look forward to as they aim to win a first All-Ireland title since 2008.
